Wike Reaffirms Loyalty to Tinubu, Dismisses 2027 Presidential Ambition Rumours
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike shuts down 2027 presidential rumours, declaring full support for President Tinubu’s leadership till 2031.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has firmly denied speculations suggesting he is being positioned to contest the 2027 presidential election, reaffirming his unflinching loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration’s vision beyond 2031.
In a statement released on Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike described the report as “another fabrication from idle minds” aimed at sowing division and creating unnecessary controversy around his political alignment.
According to Olayinka, the claim that a section of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had convened a meeting to persuade Wike to join the 2027 race was completely false. He stressed that the story was circulated by an online platform “notorious for misinformation and blackmail.”
“As far as Wike is concerned, it is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu till 2031,” Olayinka declared.
He further added that Wike’s style of leadership is defined by openness and accountability. “He does what he says and says what he does,” Olayinka noted, dismissing those behind the report as elements driven by a “pull-Wike-down” agenda.
Clarifying details of the alleged meeting, Olayinka explained that the only gathering held on August 20, 2025, was a consultative session involving PDP stakeholders from the southern region, which had nothing to do with presidential ambition. The purpose, he said, was to deliberate on internal zoning arrangements within the party ahead of another scheduled meeting in Lagos the following day.
The outcome of that southern PDP meeting, he emphasized, was made public in a press release titled “Re: Purported Meeting of PDP Southern Zoning Consultative Summit,” jointly signed by several prominent leaders from the South-East and South-South, including state party chairmen, national officers, and lawmakers.
Among those who endorsed the statement were Austin Nwachukwu (Imo), Abraham Amah (Abia), Barr. Venatius Ikem (Cross River), Rt. Hon. Aniekan Akpan (Akwa Ibom), and Aaron Chukwuemeka (Rivers), alongside Hon. Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck, the PDP National Vice Chairman (South-East), and Hon. O.K. Chinda, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives.
Olayinka maintained that the list of names and details were already in the public domain, as the statement had been widely reported across major national newspapers and television networks.
He reaffirmed that Wike’s political commitment remains unwavering:
“From now till 2031, it is on the mandate of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu that he will stand,” Olayinka said.
He added that Wike’s loyalty extends beyond politics, as he continues to drive the Renewed Hope Agenda through visible development strides across the Federal Capital Territory.
Under Wike’s leadership, Abuja has witnessed renewed infrastructure expansion, urban renewal projects, and stronger administrative efficiency — all in alignment with President Tinubu’s long-term vision to transform the capital into a world-class city.
By putting the 2027 rumours to rest, Wike has once again positioned himself as one of the most vocal and strategic allies of President Tinubu’s administration. His declaration signals a united front within the government and reinforces his commitment to advancing national development under the Renewed Hope mandate.
