🛡️ Anambra Election: NSCDC Promises Safe Voting Atmosphere for Residents
Ahead of Saturday’s Anambra governorship election, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has reassured residents that officers will protect voters and facilities, ensuring a peaceful and credible poll.

As Anambra State prepares to elect its next governor this Saturday, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says residents have nothing to fear.
The agency has pledged full security coverage across the state, assuring that officers will remain neutral, professional, and focused on creating a peaceful environment for voters to exercise their rights.
NSCDC: “We’re Here to Protect, Not Interfere”
Speaking ahead of the election, the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Audi, said all personnel deployed for the poll have been properly briefed on how to handle election duties with discipline and respect.
He explained that officers were instructed to avoid political interference, maintain composure under pressure, and prioritise the safety of both voters and election officials.
“Our job is to make sure every voter feels safe enough to step out and cast their ballot,” Audi said. “We’re not part of the politics — we’re part of the protection.”
Focus on Critical Infrastructure
The NSCDC also emphasised that part of its responsibility during the election is to secure vital installations across the state — including electricity substations, water supply networks, telecom facilities, and public buildings.
According to Audi, these facilities are essential to the success of any election because disruptions to basic infrastructure could affect communication or logistics.
“We’re not just protecting people — we’re protecting the systems that make the election work,” he added.
Joint Security Operation
The Corps confirmed that it will work hand-in-hand with the Police, Army, DSS, and Civil Defence partners under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).
This joint operation, the NSCDC says, is designed to improve coordination among agencies and allow quick response to any incident that could threaten peace during voting hours.
Field officers have also been deployed to monitor polling centres, INEC facilities, and other sensitive locations across the 21 local government areas of Anambra State.
Call for Calm and Cooperation
The security agency urged residents to remain calm, follow instructions from officials on duty, and avoid spreading rumours or panic.
“This election will be peaceful if everyone does their part,” an NSCDC field commander told PeachyMediaTV in Awka. “We’re not here to intimidate anyone — we’re here to make sure nobody stops you from voting.”
The agency also warned that any of its officers found acting unprofessionally or showing political bias would face immediate disciplinary action.
INEC Prepares for the Poll
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that all election materials have been distributed to the 21 local government areas of the state ahead of Saturday’s vote.
According to the commission, about 2.7 million registered voters are expected to participate across 5,718 polling units, with 16 candidates — including two women — contesting for the governorship seat.
With full security deployment and election logistics in place, both INEC and the NSCDC say the state is ready for a peaceful election.
For residents, the message is simple: come out, vote, and go home safely — your safety is the priority.
