💔 Night of Horror in Kaduna: Seven Killed, One Injured as Gunmen Raid Damakasuwa Community

Fear grips Kauru LGA of Kaduna as armed men storm Damakasuwa community, killing seven people and injuring one in a late-night raid that left residents in panic.

What began as a quiet evening in Damakasuwa, a peaceful community in Chawai Chiefdom, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, ended in heartbreak on Friday night when gunmen opened fire, killing seven people and leaving one other critically injured. The incident has once again thrown southern Kaduna into mourning, reigniting concerns over the region’s worsening insecurity.

According to residents, the attackers arrived around 8:00 p.m., moving stealthily through the village before unleashing sporadic gunfire that sent families running for safety. Many residents fled into nearby bushes, leaving their homes and belongings behind.

The Paramount Chief of Chawai, His Royal Highness Alhaji Yahaya Muhammad, confirmed the tragic incident, describing it as “a dark and painful night for the entire community.” He said five villagers were killed on the spot, while two others later died from their injuries.

A local youth leader, Barnabas Chawai, recounted the chaos, saying the gunmen struck when most residents had already retired for the night.

The gunfire reportedly lasted for several minutes without immediate response from security personnel. It was only after the attackers fled that military patrols arrived to stabilize the area and restore calm.

Residents of Damakasuwa say this latest attack is part of a disturbing pattern of assaults and kidnappings that have plagued the Chawai axis of Kauru LGA in recent months. The community, like many others in southern Kaduna, continues to live in fear as calls for stronger security presence go unanswered.

Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Mansir Hassan, were unsuccessful as of the time of writing, with no official statement yet issued on the attack.

The Kauru area of southern Kaduna has long been a hotspot for recurring violence and armed invasions. Friday’s killings are another grim reminder of the human cost of insecurity — lives cut short, families displaced, and communities living in constant fear. Until proactive security measures replace reactive responses, the cycle of bloodshed may sadly continue.
